Synopsis

Digital transformation changes how an enterprise creates, delivers, coordinates and captures value; technology innovation changes the capabilities on which that transformation can be built. This chapter integrates both problems without reducing either to software adoption. It distinguishes digitization, digitalization and enterprise transformation; develops digital strategy, maturity, operating models, cloud and API architecture, platforms, ecosystems, data governance, automation, artificial intelligence and generative AI; and then connects technology lifecycles, R&D portfolios, product development, open innovation, diffusion, commercialization, intellectual property and technology transfer. African evidence is central through Rwanda's IremboGov platform, continental connectivity and innovation data, and emerging AI-policy institutions, while Adobe provides a comparative global case of cloud, subscription and AI-era strategic renewal. Worked tools address value realization, platform economics, R&D portfolio choice, adoption and cyber risk. Christian moral reasoning treats technology as a servant of human flourishing, requiring truth, dignity, agency, meaningful work, privacy, security, accountability and moral limits on automation, surveillance and technologically enabled power.

Keywords: digital transformation; technology innovation; digital platforms; artificial intelligence; research and development; innovation management; intellectual property; cybersecurity; African digital economy; technology ethics
