Synopsis

Operations turns customer promises into repeatable performance by coordinating people, processes, capacity, materials, information, technology and external partners. This chapter develops one continuous architecture from internal process excellence to cross-border supply-chain execution. It explains process mapping, productivity, capacity, bottlenecks, queueing, line balancing, lean systems, quality, asset reliability, inventory control, ERP and operational metrics before extending outward to network design, sourcing, procurement, transportation, warehousing, reverse logistics, Incoterms 2020, commercial documentation, customs, trade facilitation, corridors and resilience. Worked examples apply Little's Law, queueing intuition, EOQ, reorder-point logic, safety stock, line-balancing measures, asset availability and total landed cost. Ethiopian Cargo anchors the African opening case; Rwanda and the Northern Corridor provide current corridor evidence; Toyota provides a comparative global resilience case. Digital operations, AI, IoT, blockchain and digital twins are assessed through evidence, interoperability, cybersecurity and accountability. Christian moral reasoning frames operational excellence as truthful stewardship that protects workers, suppliers, customers and communities rather than shifting hidden costs onto less powerful parties.
